S.C. launches 247 paving projects using gas tax

One month after gasoline taxes increased 2 cents a gallon across the Palmetto State to pay for road improvements, the S.C. Department of Transportation has announced a new round of  projects, including one in Lancaster County. 

The list includes 247 paving projects totaling 260 miles across 30 counties. One road in Lancaster County, Rowland Avenue in Heath Springs, will be resurfaced. It's about a mile long and connects South Main Street to Kershaw Camden Highway.

 

More charges in gun battle on Facebook

A third man has been charged in the videotaped July 19 shootout at a West Meeting Street mobile home park, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

Foresio Jones, 24, of Lancaster turned himself in at the sheriff’s office Thursday night. He was served with warrants for attempted murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.

 

Peay gets 40 years in killing

Danielle Lamar Peay has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to fatally shooting the driver of a moving car on Memorial Park Road in 2015 while Peay sat in the back seat behind him. 

The 29-year-old Lancaster man pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, attempted murder and weapons charges in the killing of Delvelceo Kirk, 26, of Ginger Cake Road. Peay was also accused of shooting at another passenger who jumped out of the car and ran away.

Pageland’s top cops ‘conditionally’ reinstated

The Pageland Town Council has “conditionally” reinstated Police Chief Craig Greenlee and Capt. Dean Short following almost three hours of deliberation in a closed session Tuesday night.
No date has been set for Greenlee and Short to resume their duties.
They were suspended with pay after entering the home of Pfc. Brandon Roberts, who had failed to report for work on May 29.

 

3 of 4 suspects in Tran killing plead guilty to lesser charges

Three of the four defendants facing trial for the drug robbery and murder of 20-year-old Randy Tran in Indian Land last year have pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
The fourth, alleged to be the shooter in Tran’s killing, is to face trial for murder later this month.
