Median home price rises in Bend

The median home price in Bend increased about 8 percent from May to June, while Redmond’s median dropped nearly 3 percent, according to a report released Wednesday by the Bratton Appraisal Group.In June, the median price for a single-family home in Bend rose to $281,000, an increase of $21,000 over May’s median price, according to the report.

 

Balloon man may retire lawn chair

A Bend man who made headlines with his numerous flights in a lawn chair suspended from party balloons said that between the high price of helium and a fine from the Federal Aviation Administration, his flying days might be done — at least in the U.

 

Campfire starts small blaze

Firefighters quickly snuffed an abandoned campfire Tuesday near Sisters.The fire burned less than a tenth of an acre at a dispersed campsite on Forest Road 1505 off Edgington Road, said Jean Nelson-Dean, spokeswoman for the Deschutes National Forest. The fire was about a mile southwest of town.br>Fire danger at the time was moderate around Sisters, she said, but high and even extreme in other parts of Central Oregon.

BendBroadband CEO is honored

Amy Tykeson, BendBroadband president and CEO, has been inducted into the Cable Center’s Cable Hall of Fame, according to a news release from the Bend cable TV, Internet and telephone company.Tykeson was inducted June 10 during the annual Cable Show held in Washington, D. C., and is one of about 100 to be inducted into the hall of fame since it was established in 1998, according to the center’s website.

 

Alaska, Horizon to boost bag fees

Alaska Airlines is raising its fee for checking a suitcase to $25, bringing it in line with most major airlines.For tickets purchased on or after Oct. 30, the Seattle-based airline will charge passengers $25 each for the first and second checked bags. Additional bags will cost $75. Alaska currently charges $20 per bag for the first three suitcases.

 

Woman cited in rollover crash

A Madras woman was cited for careless driving and driving while suspended after she fell asleep at the wheel Saturday and rolled her car over into an irrigation ditch, according to the Crook County Sheriff’s Office.Arcenia Reynoso Villa-gomez, 32, was traveling in her SUV along the O’Neil Highway when she apparently fell asleep and crossed into the oncoming lane.

 

Drug task force wins award

The Central Oregon Drug Enforcement team has been named Oregon’s 2012 outstanding task force of the year by the Oregon Narcotics Enforcement Association.In 2012, the CODE team dismantled seven drug-trafficking organizations, according to a press release, the largest number it has ever taken down in one year.
