Two ballots tip Culver scales

It’s not final, but the Culver School District’s long odyssey to fund what it considers essential upgrades appears to be over.Ballot counting on the $8.8 million bond stalled on election night with 588 “yes" votes cast against 585 “no" votes. The Jefferson County Clerk’s Office later identified four ballots that had either been dropped off with Deschutes County elections officials or had flawed or missing signatures.

 

OSP identifies deceased driver

A 50-year-old Oregon City man died early Sunday when his 1997 Jeep Wrangler overturned on U. S. Highway 26 and remained unseen there for several hours, according to Oregon State Police.OSP identified the driver Monday as Scott Joseph Young. A nearby resident at 7:12 a. m. reported the Wrangler overturned on the south side of Highway 26 about a mile from the U.S. Highway 97 intersection south of Madras.

 

Holiday DUII patrols increasing

Expect heightened attention turned to driving-under-the-influence offenses come the Thanksgiving season, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.Nighttime traffic patrols will be increased from Nov. 22 to Dec. 2, according to the Sheirff’s Office.

PORTLAND — One man is dead and a man and woman were injured early Saturday during a large fight at a Portland nightclub, police officials said.Officers were called to the Fontaine Bleau nightclub at about 12:45 a. m. to respond to what a 911 caller described as a riot, police spokesman Sgt. Town donating ambulance to Congo

OAKRIDGE — Call it a miracle or a simple act of kindness; the city of Oakridge has decided it’s time to pay it forward.Two years ago, the city was in financial crisis when it became the subject of an episode of the ABC television show “Secret Millionaire."On the show, a Texas doctor and his wife gave a number of donations to the city, including a new ambulance for the Oakridge Fire Department.
