Fire destroys apartment building

Residents of 50 apartments at Glen Oaks on Dowlen Road were left without a home Saturday morning after a fire destroyed a building, according to Capt. Jimmy Blanchard with Beaumont Fire/Rescue. Blanchard said the fire was started by a child playing with a lighter. Four people, including one police officer helping rescue residents, received minor injuries, according to Blanchard.

Another SE Texas movie theater bites the dust

The two-screen Cinema I and II on Bowling Lane in Orange, a staple of families' Friday nights and high school outings, has been closed since Harvey and won't reopen, Showbiz Cinemas said Friday.
The company did not provide more information about the scope of damage to the building or the decision to close.
The theater is the second to close in the wake of Harvey.
