PROVIDENCE -- Later this month Rhode Island College will have a new chief of its campus police force -- James J. Mendonca, the current police chief in Central Falls.Mendonca will start his new job on April 29, said RIC spokesman John Taraborelli on Thursday. He replaces Fred Ghio, who retired as RIC’s police chief in January.RIC’s police department has a staff of 21, including the chief and deputy chief.
