HOLLY HILL - A ribbon-cutting, popping champagne bottles and a nautical-themed party highlighted the ground breaking of a project that will add a marina to the MG on the Halifax complex here. For residents of the twin-tower riverfront condominium complex, the event on Thursday night has been a long time coming.A marina was one of the amenities promised to residents when the complex, known at the time as the Marina Grande, opened in 2007.The Great Recession, which began in December of that year, caused plans for the marina and other amenities to be put on hold.South Florida-based Tarpon Partners, which acquired and renamed the complex in early 2011 after the original developers lost it to bankruptcy. As the new master developer for the 25-story, 486-unit MG on the Halifax, Tarpon Partners proceeded to spend $6 million in 2012 to add a clubhouse, resort-style pool, private movie theater and fitness center, as well as a 400-foot-long pier. The 32-slip marina will be added to the pier in a project that is estimated to cost $1.5 million.
