Broward business climate momentum builds with addition of aviation, pharma firms

Broward County appears to be on a roll in persuading aviation-related and pharmaceutical companies to expand — or even move their headquarters to South Florida.
The latest aviation industry entry is VSE Corp., a publicly traded provider of aftermarket distribution and repair services. The company announced Thursday the relocation of its corporate headquarters to Miramar from Alexandria, Va. It will be “co-located” with the company’s aviation segment headquarters and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) center at 3361 Enterprise Way.

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (AP) — A woman told police that she was sexually assaulted in 2017 by Pete Hegseth after he took her phone, blocked the door to a California hotel room and refused to let her leave, according to a detailed investigative report made public late Wednesday.
Hegseth, a Fox News personality and President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to be defense secretary, told police at the time that the encounter had been consensual and denied any wrongdoing, the report said.

 

Ukraine says Russia launched an intercontinental missile in an attack for the first time in the war

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine claimed Thursday that Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile overnight at one of its cities. If confirmed, it would be the first time Moscow has used such a weapon in the war.
Ukraine did not provide any evidence that an ICBM was used in the attack on the central city of Dnipro, apparently armed with conventional warheads.

 

International Criminal Court issues arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Hamas officials

THE HAGUE (AP) — The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants on Thursday for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his former defense minister and Hamas officials, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity over their 13-month war in Gaza and the October 2023 attack on Israel respectively.

 

Federal Reserve’s likely slowdown in rate cuts could disappoint borrowers

WASHINGTON (AP) — Just a few weeks ago, the path ahead for the Federal Reserve looked straightforward: With inflation cooling and the job market slowing, the Fed appeared on track to steadily cut interest rates.
In September, its officials predicted that they would reduce their benchmark rate four times next year, on top of three rate cuts this year.

 

US applications for jobless benefits fall to 213,000, remaining near 7-month lows

The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits fell again last week, remaining near seven-month lows.
The Labor Department reported Thursday that jobless claim applications fell by 6,000 to 213,000 for the week of Nov. 16. That’s fewer than the 220,000 analysts forecast.
The four-week average of weekly claims, which quiets some of the weekly volatility, fell by 3,750 to 217,750.
Weekly applications for jobless benefits are considered a proxy for U.S. layoffs.
