Denver’s longhorn cattle drive isn’t the only livestock parade in the U.S.

Every January, thousands of people flock to Downtown Denver to watch cowboys drive a herd of longhorn steers up 17th Street as the kickoff to the annual National Western Stock Show.
The parade is led by that photogenic cattle drive, followed by a variety of literal show ponies, cars, tractors and notable figures and celebrities.

A guide to backcountry Colorado yurts for people who don’t plan a year in advance

When you get away from the chair lifts, resort towns and highways, the Rocky Mountains in winter are quiet and stunning.
And cold. Very, very cold. Only the hardiest skiers, snowboarders and snowshoers dare tent camp in this frigid landscape. But what’s a skier to do if they’ve spent all day riding untracked powder and want to get right back at it the next day?

Two lanes of westbound I-70 near Morrison closed for emergency roadwork

The right two lanes on westbound Interstate 70 are closed for emergency road work, officials announced Friday afternoon.
The interstate lanes are closed between Colorado 470 and Morrison Road as crews work to repair a deep pothole, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation on X.
Motorists should expect delays in the area, and there is no estimated time for the lanes’ reopening, according to a CDOT alert.

Red Rocks broke concert and attendance records in 2023

Red Rocks Amphitheatre hosted a record 195 concerts and even more ticketed events from its foothills perch in Morrison in 2023, bringing 1.4 million attendees to the world-famous outdoor venue.
Those numbers and others are included in a new “wrapped” report from the city-owned amphitheater, which also held 14 fitness events, nine high school graduations, six Film on the Rocks movie nights, and a handful of other bookings, according to the year-end report.

Colorado’s 9 most beautiful frozen winter waterfalls

Can you call it a waterfall if the water isn’t falling? We vote yes, and believe winter to be the coolest — see what we did there? — time to check out these frozen-over cascades. (Waterstill just doesn’t have the same ring to it.) In fact, waterfalls might be at their peak majesty when iced over and draped in newly fallen snow, creating a scene straight out of Arendelle or Narnia or some other idyllic, frosted land that isn’t in a children’s movie.

Competition between Colorado’s hot springs resorts is getting steamy

Hot springs have long been a major draw to Pagosa Springs, a small southwestern town in the shadow of the San Juan Mountains. Hundreds of years ago, the Southern Ute Indian Tribe uncovered the bubbling waters of the Mother Spring — now recognized as the world’s deepest geothermal hot spring — and its medicinal powers.

The best things to eat and drink at the Denver Christkindlmarket

The holiday cup of cheer overfloweth here in the Mile High City. Proof? You could go to a new Christmas pop-up bar in the Denver metro every day between now and Christmas and still not hit them all up.

Cozy new Colorado retreats great for a winter getaway

When planning a winter getaway, you might be tempted to focus solely on your desired activities — skiing, snowmobiling, ice skating and more. But the most seasoned cold-weather travelers know that where you stay is often just as important as what you do. After a day on the snow you’ll welcome a cozy retreat for hot cocoa, s’mores around the firepit, board games, hot tub soaks, stargazing and movie nights under the blankets.
As you make plans for winter, consider booking a room at one of these new / newly refreshed Colorado hotels.
