Church discussion series explores ethics in everyday life

ORANGE PARK | Ethics in everyday life, which also could be described as “what would Jesus do?” will be explored in an upcoming series of discussions hosted by Grace Episcopal Church in Orange Park.
The church, 245 Kingsley Ave., is inviting the public to join its members as they explore how to make ethical decisions. The discussion series from Sept. 14 through Oct. 19 will feature church rector, the Rev. Kendron Jarvis Nicholson, as well as guest speakers from throughout Northeast Florida.

 

Clay sheriff's deputies receive life-saving equipment

GREEN COVE SPRINGS | A grant has put more life-saving tools in the hands of more Clay County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies.
The Sheriff’s Office recently received 18 new Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), bringing the total to 59 of the emergency medical devices assigned to patrol deputies and supervisors, said Mary Justino, agency spokeswoman.

Jacksonville police investigating Erline Drive homicide

Jacksonville police found a man shot to death late Friday in the 1900 block of Erline Drive.
The victim, whose name wasn’t released immediately, appeared to be in his mid-20s. He was found dead from apparent gunshot wounds about 11 p.m. on the side of the road by police investigating a report of a shooting. Police had no motive or suspect information, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Jacksonville police search for driver in fatal hit-and-run Saturday

Jacksonville police were searching for a hit-and-run driver who killed a pedestrian early Saturday at Atlantic Boulevard and Acme Street.
The victim, described only as a man, died at the scene after being struck about 5 a.m. by white vehicle traveling west on Atlantic Boulevard, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
A witness reported the hit-and-run, and followed the suspect’s vehicle until losing sight of it at Atlantic and University boulevards, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Both drivers killed in head-on, wrong way collision in Jacksonville

Both drivers died in a wrong way, head-on collision early Saturday on Interstate 95 south of the Main Street Bridge Exit in Jacksonville, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Killed in the crash were Levi Walter, 40, of Vancouver, Wash., and the other driver, Robert Upson, 41, of Jacksonville. The crash about 1:13 a.m. happened as Walter drove his pickup truck south in the northbound outside center lane of I-95, and Upson was driving a passenger van northbound in the same outside lane, the Highway Patrol said.

 

Winston YMCA: $21 million showplace opened Friday in Jacksonville

James H. Winston, a Jacksonville civic leader, real estate developer and philanthropist, has been a YMCA devotee for 50 years.
The Y, he said, was “what we used to call gym and swim.”
