Catawba Gets Money To Help Needy

Catawba County officials say they will get $64,316 in federal stimulus money to boost its emergency food and shelter operations in the county.Catawba County was selected by a national board that included the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and a consortium of leading U.S. charitable organizations. The money is designed to help provide food and shelter for people in high-need areas around the country.The county has been distributing food and shelter funds with Catawba County Social Services, the Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry, the Salvation Army, Family Care Center, the Family Guidance Center, Exodus Homes, the Eastern Catawba Cooperative Christian Ministry, the Hickory Soup Kitchen, and the Corner Table.Public or private agencies interested in applying for the new federal funds should contact Tammy Dotson of Catawba County United Way, at 828-327-6851, or tdotson@ccunitedway.com.
