CAPE ELIZABETH — A Cape Elizabeth gun club is going to remain open. The Cape Elizabeth town council voted Wednesday to grant a conditional license to the Spurwink Rod and Gun Club. The town’s police chief suspended live fire at the range over the summer after a report found it unsafe. The club will receive its license if a code enforcement officer certifies the range meets the town’s safety standards. Club President Tammy Walter says they are about two-thirds of the way done with $25,000 in safety improvements and expect to finish a 25-yard range in December. Live fire will stay closed until safety standards are met. The club has operated for 60 years.
