The Free Speech Week event a student group plans for UC Berkeley next week is extremely unusual and has put the campus in a tough situation as it prepares to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to provide security for a list of far-right speakers, Chancellor Carol Christ told The Chronicle on Thursday. Christ said several factors made the event unusual: its four-day length, the fact that Milo Yiannopoulos, a media personality promoting the event, says he’s going to “occupy” the center of campus, and that some of the listed speakers contacted the campus to say they weren’t even aware they were supposed to appear.
