Bud Black is always quick to name drop San Diego State whenever he gets the chance, so it should come as no surprise that the Rockies manager put money on his alma mater with the Aztecs competing in the NCAA baseball in Corvallis, Ore. Black, who played at San Diego State in 1978 and 1979 and is a member of the school’s Hall of Fame, had a friendly wager with second baseman DJ LeMahieu over the Aztecs’ first game of the tournament against LSU. LeMahieu starred in Baton Rouge, La., for two seasons in 2008 and 2009, helping lead the Tigers to the national title in his second season. LSU’s 6-4 win over San Diego State on Friday earned LeMahieu a postgame bonus following his already sweet 4-for-5 offensive showing in his return from the disabled list. “It cost me $50,” Black said.
