Michael Walkup has announced his resignation from the McHenry County Board. The District 3 Republican made the announcement at the board's regular meeting Tuesday night. He will step down Dec. 1 because he has moved out Illinois and the County Board's jurisdiction. He wished his colleagues good luck going forward. When Walkup steps down, McHenry County Board Chairman Jack Franks will have 60 days to appoint a Republican to fill the vacant chair. Walkup's resignation followed months of speculation about whether or not he still lived in McHenry County. In January, rumors surfaced that Walkup had plans to sell the historic “Walkup house” at 5212 Walkup Road in Crystal Lake. In March, that house sold to Keith and Christina Roth for $388,000.
