The next chapter of a Pompano Beach property that once was home to a Motel 6 will be a new affordable housing project.
The plan for the 5-acre lot: 467 new units, and of those, 440 will be income-restricted affordable units.
Broward county commissioners are scheduled Tuesday to sign off on a $7 million “gap financing” deal — taxpayer money used to pay the difference between what the developer has to spend on construction and what they would be able to borrow — to turn the site into an affordable housing project.

“It’s a major great deal for us.”
In 2023 the county spent $7,250,000 on the old motel and lot, hoping the new construction would offer at least half that number of affordable units.
