  • Increasing water to increase boil time for Pilsner malt.
The recipe is for a 10 gallon batch and takes 25 lb of grain total and I had to make up the difference of about 12 lb of pilsner in it. The recipe normally takes 15.5 gallons of water total using two row and I boil it for 60 minutes. Does anybody know how much more water I would need to go for 90 minutes to boil out the dms? Thank you.

In Denver, Colorado, water will boil at about 94°C. Do not confuse boiling with cooking. Cooking pasta in Denver is a slower process because the water is at a lower temperature. Also, realize that water boiling rapidly is no hotter than water boiling slowly. The temperature of the water remains constant during the boiling process.

Tossed the boiled water in, put the lid on and kept a rolling boil, but once again fell back to 90-95 almost instantly without the lid. I can keep it at around 95 by fashioning a "cowl" around the top of the pot with aluminum foil to shrink the opening, but I still can't get it above more than a very lazy bubble.

  • Boiling with heating element
Water heaters are generally limited to 130 degrees F or less. A boil kettle is running at, or near, 212 degrees F. In theory, there could be more water vapor bubbles near the element in a boil kettle when operating at 100% which could cause it to run at a somewhat higher temperature than the surrounding hot wort in the kettle..
