Officers responded to an animal struck by a vehicle at about 6:15 pm on Thursday evening on Old Tavern Road. The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says the number of bobcats have increased in the state in recent years. Secretive, solitary, and seldom observed, they tend to hunt and travel in areas of thick cover, relying on their keen eyesight and hearing for locating prey,: DEEP says. Bobcats are about two to three times the size of their distant relative, the domestic house cat, and the tracks of a young bobcat are often confused with those left by a roaming house cat.
