Zack Pangborn, owner of Volution Gallery at 911 1/2 K St., said he likes working in the creative confines, only 3 feet wide and barely large enough for more than one customer at a time. It's hard to run a successful art gallery when your space is barely large enough for one customer at a time. But Zack Pangborn says he's "feeling positive" as he starts his second month of business at 911 1/2 K St., a 3-foot-wide retail space that for years was home to a key-making company. Business at his Volution Gallery started off so slowly that two weeks ago Pangborn hung out a sign saying he was having a "just maybe staying in business" sale. That prompted enough sales of paintings and photos along with printing orders that he put out the sign again last week, replacing the words "just maybe" with "probably." The 30-year-old artist and gallery operator says he likes the "unique" narrow space, with its distinctive Dutch door.
