A couple days ago, I was strolling with two friends along a brick-paved promenade, shrouded with willow trees on our left and on our right was a calm and pristine river. There were people sitting along the river banks soaking in the warm Spring sun, people walking their pets, kids chasing each other and couples enjoying each other’s company.
My friend, Daisy, was holding a baby in her arms, talking about how annoyed she was at her forever late husband who was supposed to be here half an hour ago. She continued her rant until the husband showed up out of nowhere. He greeted us with a hug, and then started taking off his shirt, shoes, socks and pants until he had nothing on but a pair of shorts, while telling us that he was going to go for a swim in the river. Before anyone could say anything, he jumped in. We saw his body slowly undulating beneath the clear water, like a fish gliding along the river banks.
My other friend, Lucy, had a basket filled with some chicken, fruits and vegetables, all cooked and ready to serve. She offered to give me some to take to my aunt’s house, since that was where I was headed for dinner. I declined but she insisted so I took the chicken and some grapes. We parted our ways when I reached my aunt’s house.
My aunt was having a large dinner party, with people and tables in every room of her house. Just as I was getting ready to sit down for dinner, I was awoken by beep-beep-beep of my alarm clock.
I woke up feeling well rested and relaxed, with my first thought being, wow, that was an interesting dream. I pieced the dream back together and tried to make sense of it. Dreams are supposed to have meaning—our subconscious telling us something. Yet, once repeated, nothing about that dream made any sense.
Daisy does not have a baby, nor has she ever mentioned her husband being late. He also would not jump into a river spontaneously. Lucy would not walk around with cooked food in a basket. And, I, well, I did not know what to think. So, I looked up key phrases to decipher what was in my head, considering that most objects in a dream signify something about me.
Being in another place, like the promenade, means that I am adjusting to a new reality. The clear water means I am at peace with myself. Walking along slowly and calmly means I am moving with ease through life. Swimming signifies deep thought not yet understood. Seeing friends means that I am ready to face myself, and being invited to a dinner party means I am ready to have some fun.
All in all, my dream said I was at peace with myself, content with life and I would be having a great time with my friends. Nothing enlightening, but nonetheless an acceptable answer.
