Blockbuster Is Gone, But Sign Endures In Stamford

Blockbuster rebranded itself as an entertainment company in 1996 — when DVDs came on the scene — dropping the “video” from its name and updating its logo. The state’s only other rental outfit is Best Video Film and Cultural Center in Hamden, which has survived by becoming a nonprofit cultural arts center offering film screenings, live music and lectures.
