    “Further” is usually employed as an adjective that modifies a noun. For the most part, it is NOT used at the beginning of a sentence (e.g., “Without further delay.”). It is synonymous with “additional.” By contrast, “furthermore” is an adverb that doesn’t modify anything. It is used to support or expand a prior statement.
