By Rusty Marks Federal officials have accused staff at the Beckley Veterans Affairs Medical Center of swapping out new mental health drugs for older, cheaper medications in an effort to save money.According to a press release issued this afternoon by the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, a VA whistleblower told officials with the Office of Special Counsel about the drug swaps, which were confirmed by the VA's Office of Medical Inspector.According to the Office of Special Counsel, the Beckley VA's Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee restricted health care providers from administering the mental health drugs aripiprazole, also known as ABILIFY, and ziprasidone, also known as Geodon, and substituting older, cheaper drugs to try to save money within the organization.
