The award, the equivalent of the best picture trophy at the Oscars, went to the Slanted Door, and was handed out at the Beard foundation's annual festivities, Monday in New York. For Patterson, it was his sixth consecutive nomination in the category, but he said the award was more about his restaurant staff. The Restaurant at Meadowood, one of two Bay Area restaurants to boast a perfect three Michelin stars, took home the award for outstanding service. Civil Eats, a Bay Area website focused on sustainable food and agriculture issues, was named publication of the year.
