Authorities Charge Gaffney Man In Explosion At Car Wash

John Conner recalled moving furniture late one night when he heard a loud “boom” and saw picture frames fly off his wall. The Gaffney man remembers the night of July 6 quite well, when an explosion took place at a car wash next door. “It rattled the house,” said Conner, who has some trees and a wooden fence separating his home from the car wash. After a joint investigation, authorities have arrested the man they say is responsible for exploding a money machine at the Oasis Car Wash on Ruppe Drive in Gaffney. Brick and mortar scattered on yards and properties around the car wash as far as 200 feet away, law enforcement said. Sheriff Steve Mueller announced the arrest during a news conference Tuesday. Jeffrey Dean Daily, 43, of 542 Old Metal Road in Gaffney, is accused of causing the explosion — and may be responsible for a series of other blasts in both Cherokee and Spartanburg counties over the past year. Mueller said there’s no telling how far Daily was willing to take a “disturbing” and “bizarre” pattern of explosions. “We’re not sure what his intent was.
