CORAL GABLES — Matt Cleveland had a career-high 24 points, Brandon Johnson scored 22, and Lynn Kidd totaled 20 points and 11 rebounds as the trio of seniors helped Miami snap a seven-game losing streak with a 94-75 victory over Presbyterian on Sunday.
Cleveland buried 9 of 12 shots from the floor with two 3-pointers and 4 of 5 free throws for the Hurricanes (4-7), who improved to 4-3 at home.
HOUSTON — Entering Sunday’s game it appeared this would end as either coach Mike McDaniel’s best victory with the Miami Dolphins or one of his most disheartening losses.
The 20-12 loss at Houston was indeed one of McDaniel’s and the Dolphins’ most disheartening losses.

HOUSTON — Realistic playoff hopes for the Miami Dolphins have evaporated.
Falling victim to a pair of touchdowns from Houston Texans quarterback C. J. Stroud to wide receiver Nico Collins and four turnovers of their own doing, the Dolphins lost, 20-12, in a defensive slugfest at NRG Stadium on Sunday afternoon and a contest marred by the scary head injury to wide receiver Grant DuBose.
Miami (6-8) is not yet eliminated from the playoffs, but it is running out of paths to the postseason.
The team, before the Denver Broncos’ and Los Angeles Chargers’ later games Sunday, fell to two games out of the final AFC playoff spot with three weeks remaining.
“My message to the team was not to run from how this feels,” McDaniel said after the loss.
Quick thoughts from South Florida Sun Sentinel staffers on the Miami Dolphins‘ 20-12 loss to the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium on Sunday:

Tua Tagovailoa threw three interceptions and had a career-worst four turnovers Sunday and the run game gave nothing (52 yards). It was another disappointing December road performance for the Dolphins, whose offense produced one touchdown.
David Furones, Dolphins Writer
Can’t expect to win a road game against a playoff-caliber team turning the ball over four times.
