As a college student in the 1960s, Art Spiegelman landed a dream job illustrating bubblegum packaging for Topps. Over the next couple decades, that commercial work gave him the financial freedom to edit two avant-garde comix series – Arcade and Raw – and to draw the first volume of Maus, his Pulitzer-winning graphic novel about the Nazi concentration camps.
