Baron Browning stays off social media for the most part. That’s good for sanity’s sake any time of the year, but particularly when the NFL trade deadline is on the horizon — to say nothing of the fact that it happens to fall on Election Day. Browning, the fourth-year Broncos outside linebacker, has been mentioned as a potential trade target by NFL Network and ESPN over the past week.

The Archdiocese of Denver and a nonprofit representing the state’s Catholic bishops have contributed $225,000 to a Colorado anti-abortion group in its fight against Amendment 79, which would enshrine abortion rights in the state’s constitution. The Pro-Life Colorado Fund, a coalition of more than 50 anti-abortion groups, received $175,000 on Oct.

A Thornton woman filed a civil rights lawsuit against an Adams County Sheriff’s deputy this month after he attacked her and her family in a Walmart parking lot while off duty last year, according to court records. Linda Hurley is suing Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy Ezekiel Spotts for violating her and her family’s Fourth Amendment protections against excessive force and unlawful seizures, according to the lawsuit.

Arapahoe Basin will barely miss its customary October opening, but it will welcome skiers and riders on Saturday, Nov. 2, as will Keystone. Since 2002, A-Basin has failed to open in October only once. That was in 2020 when it opened on Nov. 9. Wolf Creek, which is located 250 miles from Denver in southern Colorado, was first to open this year on Oct.

Xcel Energy plans to spend $45 billion on capital investments in the next five years with about $22 billion of that to be spent in Colorado as the utility prepares for what it calls a significant shift in energy demand. Bob Frenzel, chairman, president and CEO of the Minneapolis-based company, announced the investment plan during an earnings call Thursday.

The Denver-Boulder area has long been an excellent destination for the arts. And in 2025, a new, large-scale jazz festival, hopefully to become a local tradition, will take place. The Denver Jazz Fest will run April 3-6 next year, organizers announced on Oct. 31. “Denver has such a rich history in terms of jazz artists who have lived here, performed here and grew up here,” says Don Lucoff, veteran publicist, jazz lover and president/co-founder of Denver Jazz, the Colorado 501(c)(3) nonprofit behind the festival.
