Anadarko Petroleum Corp. has notified Longmont that it intends to begin a “plug and abandon operation” of several wells on a pad east of the city this week, with the work expected to last seven to 14 weeks. According to a notice and map Anadarko sent the city on Monday, the operation will be east of Union Reservoir, involving the retirement of seven wells on a pad on private property northeast of Weld County Roads 5 and 26, according to Anadarko spokeswoman Jennifer Brice. “Flaring of gas could potentially be spotted on the site,” Anadarko municipal planning regulatory analyst Samantha Petite said in her written notice, which Brice said went to residents and owners of property within 1,500 feet of the well pad site. “The wells have successfully produced the recoverable oil and natural gas at this location and therefore reached the end of their productive life,” Brice said in an email to the Times-Call.
