The Eastgate Branch of the Algonquin Area Public Library District will be closed throughout the third week of April. Work will begin on constructing a separate computer lab and renovating the service desk and play area, according to the library's website. The library, 115 Eastgate Drive, will be closed from Saturday, April 14 through Sunday, April 22. The renovated branch will feature new carpet, paint, lighting and seating areas. During the closure, any holds will be available at the Harnish Main Library for pickup. Construction is part of a $6.5 million renovation at the branch and Algonquin Harnish Library. The main library recently entered its second phase of construction that includes a dedicated computer lab, teen space and an expansion of the children play area, Executive Director Sara Murray said. The first phase was finished in late February, and the renovation adds 8,000 square feet to the library. As part of the next phase, a new makerspace room will house crafts and new technology, including 3-D printers, vinyl cutters, button makers and possibly a sewing machine.
