If you’re running in this Saturday’s Akron Marathon, or planning to cheer on the athletes passing through your neighborhood, or perennially get tripped up by traffic closings on race day, a word of warning: Make no assumptions based on previous experiences.The event that attracts 15,000 participants, 2,500 volunteers and tens of thousands of supporters is never exactly the same two years in a row, and this year’s changes are more significant than most.For starters, there’s a brand new course bringing new neighborhoods into the fold while slipping away from some areas that have become accustomed to the Blue Line weaving through their streets.Other notable changes include a new day and route that will put a bigger spotlight on the Kids Fun Run, new medals for runners who completed all three events in the inaugural Rubber City Race Series and new prize money to reward Ohio athletes for supporting the local show.Charting a new courseSo long Firestone Park, Sand Run and the Towpath Trail.
