Stories Related to Actor Tom Hanks Coming To Cleveland For Film Commission Fundraiser

Actor Tom Hanks will have a homecoming of sorts in December to help raise money for the Greater Cleveland Film Commission’s effort to convince Hollywood to film more movies in Northeast Ohio.Hanks will headline the “Behind The Camera” event to be held Dec. 2 at the InterContinental Cleveland Hotel and Conference Center.Hanks is not a stranger to Cleveland, as the Academy Award-winning star cut his acting teeth as an intern for the Great Lakes Theater Festival in the 1970s.He went from the behind the scenes to center stage, performing for three years with the theater group and even winning the Cleveland Critics Circle Award in 1978 for best actor for his role as Proteus in Shakespeare’s The Two Gentlemen of Verona. But it will be his subsequent movie roles from Philadelphia to Toy Story that will likely dominate much of the event’s on-stage discussion moderated by WKYC anchor Russ Mitchell.Last year the film commission’s major fundraising event featured Clevelanders and film directors Joe and Anthony Russo, fresh off their work on Captain America: Civil War.“I am honored that Tom agreed to do this for our organization and for Northeast Ohio,” said film commission president Ivan Schwarz in a statement.
