Major game publisher Nacon expects the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 to launch by September 2025. As a game publisher and accessories manufacturer, Nacon is likely to get advance notice of major releases to plan their promotions and activities for the year. In an excerpt from Nacon’s third quarter of 2024/25 sales press release, Nacon writes that it “already has compatible games and a full range of accessories” for the new console. Notably, Nacon also states that “business levels in the first half of [fiscal year] 2025/26 will be supported by several positive factors,” and one of these is “the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2 console.” Nintendo Switch 2 release window This release window of September 2025 would align with the usual Nintendo rhythms, on the heels of the game company officially announcing the successor console, after years of hopes and months of rampant rumors. Belgium has begun a criminal probe into allegations that the iPhone maker Apple is facing that suggest it has knowingly sourced ‘blood minerals’ from the Democratic Republic of Congo. This comes after the DRC filed criminal complaints in Belgium and France against subsidiaries of the technology group in mid-December. Lawyers acting on behalf of the Congolese government have called the alleged situation a “massive laundering and greenwashing operation,” according to the Financial Times.

The Australian gambling company ‘The Star Entertainment’ has warned of financial uncertainty as its revenue is down amidst “continued weakness in the operating performance.” In a quarterly activities report, detailing the insights for the second quarter ending 31 December 2024, the company states that Q2 FY25 revenue is down 15% compared to Q1. The revenue for the quarter was AU$299M (roughly $186.94M in USD) which shows a decline from the previous quarter which had revenue of AU$351M. The company is Australia’s biggest listed casino group and it was founded in 2011 when it was formerly known as Echo Entertainment. “The results for the period reflect continued weakness in the operating performance of the Group due to the ongoing challenging consumer environment, the impact of mandatory carded play and cash limits in NSW, and costs associated with ongoing remediation activities.” Revenue is down again for The Star Entertainment The group revenue being down 15% compared to the previous quarter is said to have been “due to the closure of Treasury Brisbane Casino, continued softness at The Star Sydney following the implementation of mandatory carded play and cash limits.” The operating expenses of the company are down too as they see lower corporate costs, reduced activity, and the closure of the Treasury Brisbane casino.

A sports betting watchdog has launched an investigation of suspicious betting activity around a Eastern Michigan basketball game. This would mark the second basketball game at Eastern Michigan University that has been investigated for suspicious bets in the span of one month. Sports betting watchdog Integrity Compliance 360 (IC360) sent an alert to its clients detailing that a bettor attempted to place “their largest wager to date” on Central Michigan to cover the spread in the first half. “While investigating, the operator also found two other high stakes wagers from two accounts in a different jurisdiction, both on Central Michigan 1st Half spread,” the alert read. As reported by ESPN’s David Purdum, multiple sportsbooks had also reported alarming wagers during last week’s NCAA basketball game between Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan. The betting activity was found across Connecticut and Tennessee, with several high-stakes bets on the same spread wager coming from two accounts in a different jurisdiction.
