On this date in 1520, Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan began crossing the Pacific Ocean. And, yeah, he never really came all that close to Oregon, or, really, the land that would become the U.S. about 250 years later. Still, it's fun to think that, at one point, we were on the same side of the world, in a matter of speaking, as Magellan.
