STAMFORD-A city man who has spent the past five years in jail facing a murder charge for shooting and killing a West Side man, was sentenced Thursday to seven more years in prison after earlier pleading guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter. At the end of September, only weeks away from picking a jury for trial, Catchings agreed to a plea bargain to reduce the murder charge to manslaughter and accept the prison sentence. Seeger said that the plea agreement struck was a proper assessment of the strengths and weaknesses on both sides, taking into account how it would all play out in front of a jury.
